Optimization of extraction condition of Gynura procumbens extract enriched with flavonoid and antioxidant compounds using Response Surface Methodology

Gynura procumbens is known as one of the herbal medicinal plants found in Indonesia and has been used from time to time. It claimed have various efficacy such anti-hyperglycemic, anti-hypertension, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, antioxidant. Other studies mention that G. possessed high antioxidant compounds had a natural-based supplement. However, further on optimizing extraction process yet be reported. Therefore, this study aimed optimize condition leaves by maceration with three variables: solvent concentration, time, ratio solid-liquid used. Each those variables contained different levels. Determination total flavonoid activity was measured using aluminium chloride colourimetric assay 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH) assay, respectively. In optimization process, Response Surface Methodology (RSM) explore main effects interaction between parameters their correlations dependent variables. The results were analyzed Box-Behnken method Minitab software 17. This shows most significant effect variable for both P<0.05. showed obtain extract optimal content (IC50) predicted at 70% 1 h 1:9.8 w/v, 17.599 mg QE/g 0.211 mg/mL, expected complement other can an additional reference development larger scale.
